The Parent Life program at Straight Street is a ministry that provides pregnant and parenting teenagers with the connections they need to prepare for childbirth. In partnering with Youth for Christ, we provide a safe environment that allows parents to receive faith-based support. We assist parents with finding local programs which include, but are not limited to, financial classes, parental counseling, and basic baby needs.
Our Parent Life group meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at the Straight Street building at 333 Luck Ave, Roanoke, VA 24016. Meetings start at 6:30pm and end at 8pm. A meal is provided as well as devotional time and childcare. Our nurseries and excellent leaders make the Parent Life experience a positive one for each family that attends. At the close of each night, parents are given a fresh supply of diapers, and wipes, and through participation can earn points for other necessities.
Whether a teenager is in the beginning stages of their pregnancy, a first-time parent, or is more seasoned in their parenting, each can benefit from Parent Life. Our facility contains a nursery, as well as a toddler room. Short Bible lessons are prepared for each meeting for those who are in the toddler room. Our volunteers excel at making each child feel welcome, and that their needs are met during the meeting. The adult devotional time gives young moms and dads the opportunity to spend time developing their faith, along with building connections with others who may be experiencing similar circumstances.

Do you enjoy sorting and organizing?
You could sort and organize clothing in the clothes closet and assist when parents shop.
Do you have a love for babies and toddlers and available 1st and 3rd Mondays evenings 6:30pm-8:15pm?
You could rock and soothe babies in the nursery or enjoy the energy and excitement in the toddler room while caring for them.
Do you have some time to spend with a young parent and their children by contacting and/or meeting up weekly or bi-weekly?
You could be a mentor.
Are you available Thursday Mornings 9:30-11 and have a desire to reach out and encourage pregnant teens?
You could take breakfast snacks to the school and spend time with pregnant teens, get to know them, and invite them to Parent Life.
Are you available 1st and 3rd Mondays 5-9, comfortable driving a larger vehicle (15 passenger bus which does not require a CDL) or riding along to assist the driver and riders?
You could be a bus driver or helper and provide transportation to and from Parent Life for those who need it.
The mission and purpose of Straight Street is to provide a positive Christian environment where at-risk* youth can go and obtain the necessary skills and training needed to mature and to discover God’s Divine plan for their lives.
